Personnel from Bataan Maritime Police Station conducted an intelligence driven operation involving an illegal wildlife trader using the Facebook social media platform for an illegal activity on August 16, 2022.

Said station conducted a cyber patrol on the activities of a Facebook account with the name PEs Ruz Jerson about an online buying and selling of an endangered species, particularly the wild duck known locally as “mallard” between the merchant and the purchaser.

Prior the conduct of an entrapment operation, the operating team of Bataan MARPSTA had several conversations with PEs Ruz Jerson regarding the sale/transaction of wild animals.

The suspect has agreed to sell nine wild ducks for Six Thousand Three Hundred Pesos (Php6, 300.00).

Upon confirmation of the suspect in the transaction, the Chief of Regional Maritime Unit 3 formed a team from Bataan MARPSTA.

The team arrived at the agreed location outside Mitsubishi Motors in Brgy. Dolores, San Fernando City, Pampanga.

The suspect arrived at the scene aboard his tricycle with the wild ducks placed inside a cage to be sold to a PNP-MG poseur buyer.

When the transaction was completed, a signal was given to arrest the suspect.

The subject was identified as Arjay S. Villaluz, 29, resident of Brgy. Digmala, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija. He will be charged with an offense under RA 9147 (Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act), Chapter IV, Sec. 27 in relation to RA 10175 (Cyber Crime).

The rescued wild ducks will be handed over to DENR PENRO Pampanga and the suspect has been brought to Bataan MARPSTA for documentation and appropriate disposition.
